Consider Her Ways

Of all the creatures God could have chosen to teach us wisdom, He chose one of the smallest. Not the lion for courage, not the eagle for vision — the ant. Solomon, the wisest man of his age, tells us to get down low, look closely, and consider her ways. That word “consider” is not a casual glance. It means to study, to observe carefully, to sit with something until it teaches you.

So what do we see when we actually stop and look? The ant has no supervisor standing over her. Proverbs 6:7 says she has “no guide, overseer, or ruler,” yet she gathers her food in summer and stores it for winter. Nobody makes her work. Nobody applauds her when she does. She is faithful because faithfulness is simply what she is.

Wisdom Without an Audience

This is the first great lesson of the ant: character is what you do when no one is watching. So much of our effort today is performed — posted, shared, measured in likes and reactions. The ant knows nothing of any of that. She carries her crumb because the colony needs it and winter is coming. God sees the work done in secret, and Scripture promises that what is done faithfully in secret, He rewards openly (Matthew 6:4).

There is real freedom here. You do not need a title to be diligent. You do not need recognition to be faithful. The mother packing lunches at 6 a.m., the volunteer setting up chairs before church, the believer praying for people who will never know it — this is ant work, and heaven takes notice of every bit of it.

Small Steps, Repeated Daily

Notice also that the ant's strength is not in any single act. One trip, one crumb, one grain of sand from the tunnel — each is almost nothing. But repeated hour after hour, season after season, those tiny acts build colonies that outlast storms. Wisdom works the same way. One prayer, one page of Scripture, one honest day's work, one small kindness — almost nothing on its own, everything when compounded over a faithful life.

That is why Mrs. Ant exists as a ministry: to help us take small, steady, biblical steps — one at a time — until the walking itself becomes worship.

Consider Your Own Ways

The invitation of Proverbs 6:6 is ultimately personal. Before we consider her ways, most of us need to honestly consider our own. Where have we been waiting for motivation that never comes? Where have we told ourselves we will start preparing “next season”? The ant does not wait to feel ready. She simply begins, and she keeps beginning, every single morning.

This week, pick one small thing you have been putting off — a conversation, a habit, a page of Scripture — and do it once a day, quietly, without telling anyone. Consider her ways, and be wise.
